Manchester City

Gianluigi Donnarumma will return in goal after Gerónimo Rulli's penalty shootout heroics helped Manchester City eliminate Brighton from the Carabao Cup. Enzo Maresca has confirmed that the Italian remains his first-choice goalkeeper despite Rulli saving two penalties in Wednesday's victory. City twice came from behind in a 2-2 draw before progressing 4-3 on spot-kicks. The manager made nine changes for that encounter and can now restore the regulars who were rested, including Erling Haaland, Rúben Dias, Joško Gvardiol and Elliot Anderson.

Antoine Semenyo is the only confirmed absentee as he continues recovering from a knee injury. With the rest of his squad available, Maresca has several decisions to make in attacking midfield. Rayan Cherki and Phil Foden both featured prominently in midweek, while Iliman Ndiaye is also competing for a starting position. Jérémy Doku should return on the left, with Haaland leading the attack. Matheus Nunes is available again, although Abdukodir Khusanov could retain the right-back position he occupied against Aston Villa.

Brighton

Fabian Hürzeler has received several important fitness boosts ahead of Brighton's second visit to the Etihad Stadium in four days. Ferdi Kadıoğlu, Chema Andrés and Charalampos Kostoulas are expected to be available after missing Wednesday's Carabao Cup encounter. Yankuba Minteh and Mats Wieffer also returned from injury as substitutes in that match. Brighton were eliminated on penalties after twice taking the lead, but Hürzeler was encouraged by his side's performance against Manchester City's heavily rotated team.

The manager is likely to restore Bart Verbruggen in goal and return to the defensive unit used in the recent league fixtures against Crystal Palace and Liverpool. Kostoulas should resume his central attacking role after being rested in midweek, with Yasin Ayari operating behind him. Pascal Groß and Chema Andrés are the leading candidates in deeper midfield positions. Kaoru Mitoma remains unavailable, leaving Maxim De Cuyper likely to retain his place on the left. Hürzeler must decide how quickly to reintegrate the returning Minteh and Wieffer without compromising their recovery.
