Pre-match preview

RB Leipzig

Antonio Nusa helped Leipzig beat Schalke 2-0 on Saturday, scoring from the penalty spot and then setting up Rômulo. It was their first away league win of the campaign and a timely boost before facing a Manchester City side capable of dominating possession. Leipzig have won only once in their first three Champions League games. Assan Ouédraogo and Marc Guiu are ruled out, while Maxime Estève remains a doubt.

Martín Demichelis has an interesting midfield decision. Ezechiel Banzuzi has started the last two domestic fixtures, while Nicolas Seiwald, Neil El Aynaoui and Rocco Reitz offer different combinations. Leipzig could return to a 4-2-3-1, with Christopher Nkunku behind Rômulo, although Christoph Baumgartner is pushing for minutes after scoring twice in the German Cup. Nusa's direct running and Brajan Gruda's movement from the opposite flank could be particularly useful if Leipzig are forced to defend for long periods.

Manchester City

Back-to-back Premier League defeats have exposed an unusually vulnerable Manchester City defence. Brighton won 1-0 at the Etihad on Saturday, prompting Enzo Maresca to question his team's finishing and avoidable mistakes. The Champions League has brought a more convincing response, including a 5-1 victory over AEK Athens after losing to Paris Saint-Germain. Antoine Semenyo remains sidelined with a knee problem.

Erling Haaland should lead the attack again, having started against Brighton after being rested for the AEK match. Rayan Cherki made his latest appearance from the bench and is an option to return as the central creator. Phil Foden, who scored a hat-trick against AEK, and Iliman Ndiaye are among the contenders for the wide positions. Former Leipzig defender Joško Gvardiol is expected to play on the left of the back four. Maresca must decide whether to keep Matheus Nunes at right-back and how to protect against Antonio Nusa's pace.
