Two regular defenders are missing for Mainz as Bayern Munich visit: Phillipp Mwene serves a one-match ban after his fifth caution of the season, and Stefan Posch sits out a suspension of his own after a second yellow card against Elversberg. Posch had played every minute of the previous five matches.
Robin Zentner is expected to continue in goal after making his first start of this run at Elversberg in place of Alexander Schwolow. Paul Nebel also started for the first time in this spell against Elversberg, and the choice between him and Jae-Sung Lee remains open after Lee did not feature that day.
Bayern Munich
Serge Gnabry is expected to be sidelined until Christmas after sustaining a hamstring injury, while Bayern teammate Ismael Saibari faces three to four months out after ankle surgery. Jamal Musiala and Luis Díaz remain unavailable, with both expected to return to team training after the November international break, so neither is expected to face Mainz.
Vincent Kompany is also expected to miss the trip and is not due to return before the international break. In goal, Manuel Neuer and Jonas Urbig are the two candidates to start. Urbig has started three of Bayern's last five matches, compared with two for Neuer, who played against Atletico Madrid.
