Newcastle United

Anthony Elanga remains a doubt for Newcastle United's meeting with Aston Villa because of a knee injury. The winger played no part against Coventry City after starting twice in the previous five matches.

Lewis Miley is expected to continue in defence at right-back, a role he has filled in two of the last five matches as the Magpies have also used Amar Dedić there. Dedić was among several players, including Joelinton and Dan Burn, who had limited minutes against Coventry and will need time to return to their best physical condition.

Bazoumana Touré, forced off late in that game after taking a blow to his ankle, is also doubtful for this weekend.

Aston Villa

George Hemmings could return for Aston Villa's trip to Newcastle United. The winger is doubtful with a knee injury and had started twice in the previous five matches before his absence.

Ian Maatsen and Matteo Ruggeri remain sidelined with ankle and hamstring injuries respectively. Pau Torres, who started three of the last five matches at left centre-back, is expected to give way to Tyrone Mings there this weekend.

Ibrahim Mbaye made his first start in five matches against Fenerbahçe, but Emiliano Buendía is expected to return after missing that game. João Gomes is also expected to start after appearing as a substitute.
