Robin Le Normand's first Atletico Madrid start, in the 4-0 win over Osasuna, has been followed by a suspension that rules him out of Sunday's match against Real Madrid. With Dávid Hancko also expected to make way, Cristian Romero and Marc Pubill, who have mostly rotated in and out of the same role this season rather than played alongside each other, are expected to partner up in central defence.

João Cardoso, another player handed his first start against Osasuna, is again in line to start in central midfield, with Morten Hjulmand the alternative. Pablo Barrios is doubtful due to a muscle issue.

Julián Álvarez is expected to be available again after a spell out with muscle overload, and Alexander Sørloth has returned to training this week following his own injury. Neither featured in the win over Osasuna.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid's right-back position is still unsettled. Denzel Dumfries is expected to start, with Trent Alexander-Arnold the other candidate after the pair shared the position across the last five matches. Dumfries lost his place for the win at Elche and only came off the bench in the closing minutes.

Aurélien Tchouaméni, given his first start in that recent run at Elche, is expected to keep his place alongside Federico Valverde in midfield. In defence, Antonio Rüdiger remains out of the side after missing the Elche game, with Ibrahima Konaté expected to continue at right centre-back instead.
