Pre-match preview

KV Kortrijk

Daniel Beichler's decision to use a back five at Standard offered Kortrijk a more solid platform. His side pressed high, defended with greater discipline and came away with a 1–1 draw. Goduine Koyalipou converted a penalty for his first league goal of the season, making him a natural choice to lead the attack again.

Marko Ilić returned in goal following an injury spell, and the defenders who featured in Liège now have a case for keeping their places. Matthew Anderson and Mohamed Fofana can provide the width from deeper positions, with Boris Lambert and Anthony Philips offering protection centrally. Beichler also had additional preparation time after the original Mechelen fixture was postponed by bad weather. Shandre Campbell has completed his suspension and can compete for a wide role. Captain Brecht Dejaegere missed the Standard match, but there has been no definitive confirmation that he is ready to return.

KV Mechelen

Mechelen followed their win over Sint-Truiden by beating Genk 1–0, with Simion Michez scoring the decisive first-half goal. The result strengthened the case for retaining the 3-4-1-2 system. It also brought a setback on the touchline: Fred Vanderbiest received two yellow cards and will be suspended, leaving assistant Gunter Van Handenhoven to oversee the match against Kortrijk.

The back three against Genk consisted of José Marsà, Luc Marijnissen and Kobe Corbanie. Mike Eerdhuijzen missed that game through illness, so his availability remains a decision to monitor rather than a confirmed return. Ortwin De Wolf kept a clean sheet after Nacho Mirás was absent for personal reasons; there is no confirmed goalkeeping choice for Wednesday. Myron van Brederode is expected to operate behind the strikers. With Bouke Boersma previously sidelined by a muscle problem, Benito Raman and Malcolm Lohunanu-Mbasi are credible candidates to continue up front.
